NEW 2.8 V-6 TURBO ENGINE IN SAAB 9-3 AERO NAMED ONE OF WARD’S 10 BEST ENGINES

The all-new 2.8-liter V-6 Turbo engine in 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero models has been named among the industry’s “10 Best Engines” of 2006 by the editors at Ward’s Communications.

“We would put the Saab 9-3 Aero’s in-gear acceleration up against anything in its class, or against anything a class or two above,” said the Ward’s Communications judging panel. “There are few V-8 sport sedans that can run away when the full turbocharged fury of this 2.8L V-6 is deployed…It is a luxury performance engine that reinforces Saab’s heritage for leading-edge turbocharged motors.”

Ward’s Communications publishes Ward’s AutoWorld and Ward’s Engine and Vehicle Technology Update. The criteria for the “10 Best Engines” competition include a range of customer drivability factors such as horsepower, torque, technical relevance to the vehicle, and low levels of noise, vibration and harshness. Now in its 12th year, Ward’s “10 Best Engines” was created as a way to recognize superior performance and showcase the critical importance of powertrain technology and excellence in engine engineering.

“Saab is honored to receive this expert praise for the new 2.8 V-6 Turbo in the 9-3 Aero Sport Sedan, SportCombi and Convertible,” said Jay Spenchian, Saab Automobile USA general manager. “Saab is still a relatively small brand, but we have long been known for sporty, turbocharged performance. It’s great to see influential institutions such as Ward’s Communications recognizing these strengths. It is all the more evidence that Saab can run with the best in its competitive set.”
